The Hifi Club and Substation are proud to present Mall Grab with support from SSGG, Esette & Vanilla Disco.
newer to the scene but not to be underestimated, 23-year-old Mall Grab is breaking all kinds of moulds on his rapid rise to recognition on the world stage.
previously working from the confines of his studio in his decidedly un-electronic hometown of Newcastle, Australia - now based in London - he is a clear example of the connective power of the Internet; proof that the web does have the ability get real talent noticed.
his music has been described as “mildly celestial ‘hella stoned’ introspections that pay homage to old Three 6 Mafia mixtapes as much as more recent astral experiences in house and techno.” and "a surefire purveyor of leg-stretching, dusty house material,” and we think there’s only more exciting things to come.
stripped back yet emotional, his love for music and fun is obvious - whether it's in his own productions, or one of his energy-filled dj sets.
The Hifi Club & New Wave are proud to present Blank Banshee (live) with support from OAKK, Supersex420 & Silkq
The Hifi Club and Bass Coast Festival are proud to present The Mutiny Tour feat The Librarian + dBridge, and OAKK.
The Hifi Club is proud to present Jessy Lanza with support from Kate NV.
Tickets go on sale Friday March 3 at 11 AM MST.
Jessy Lanza's second album 'Oh No' is addressed to her own constant nervousness. The pressure of music making, which used to calm her nerves, has led to a whole new world of contingencies that stoke the anxiety mill. The exclamation 'Oh No,' for Jessy, marks yet another incident of randomness interrupting her tranquillity. All of which seems at odds with the confidence and spontaneity of this second album as well as recent collaborations with the likes of Caribou, DJ Spinn and Morgan Geist and his Galleria project.
So Far Gone started in Brooklyn with Mad Decent affiliate, and internet meme savant, Dirty South Joe. The idea is to play Drake till someone passes out from sheer exuberance, or starts crying tears into their drink over lost lovers or past spurned advances toward strippers.
And the crew of DJs coming to Calgary for this ode to Drizzy – Dirty South Joe, Gun$ Garcia and Magglezzz is from Philly, so given his strife with the city, you know it's going to be official.
Substation Recordings & The Hifi Club are pleased to welcome Neighbour back to the stage on March 23.
With support from Rusty Meeks & Kellen Parkz.
Neighbour - co-owner of Homebreakin Records, and one of Western Canada’s underground heroes, combines influences from electronic, afro, latin, disco, techno, and especially house music with razor-sharp futuristic production.
Shambhala, Basscoast, Tall Tree Festival, and SanFranDisco were highlights of this year’s festival tours; internationally, he DJ’ed as far as Canibal Royal in Playa del Carmen, MX as well as series of gigs in California. 2016 saw the construction and establishment of a new mix/master/production suite for Vancouver’s electronic music community, called KIKLO, co-producing and mastering an album with Rob Garza of Thievery Corporation, new tours with longtime collaborator MC Thinktank, and an all-hardware live house and techno project called MIRAGE INC.
In addition to playing primarily original productions, remixes, and edits, Neighbour has been known to play live synthesizer and electric guitar alongside his legendary DJ sets, which range from no-nonsense underground house, to classic techno, disco, and futuristic dance music.
Ever evolving and deeply committed to the science of good sound, Neighbour's approach to dance music has universal appeal.
Discotheque Nuit is back for its fourth curation of love injected tunes for you and yours. Satuday, March 18th, the Hifi Club will be home to a night dedicated to the most colourful dance music from the past, present and future. The Hifi Club and Substation is proud to present Tiga with support from Overland, Chris Brennan and Esette.
There’s tension at the heart of Tiga’s musical soul. On the one hand he’s the underground techno don, the producer who made ‘Mind Dimension’ (2008) and, together with Audion, the pounding ‘Let’s Go Dancing’ (2013). On the other, there’s the pop sensibility that led him to record electro versions of Corey Hart’s 1984 hit ‘Sunglasses At Night’ (2001) and Nelly’s ‘Hot In Herre’ (2003). It’s this duality that makes him one of electronic music’s most engaging characters. He’s about as far away from your faceless techno DJ from central casting as it’s possible to get.
The Hifi Club is proud to present Tommy Kruise with support from DJ Sioux V.
If you’ve done that thing called “going out and having fun” in Montreal in the last two years—especially if your definition of fun is getting fucked up and dancing to rap sub-genres—you’ve seen his face behind the booth or on that shirt with a weird-lookin’ dude with a huge joint danglin’ from his lips. That dude is Tommy Kruise. Kruise is pretty much everywhere right now, doing everything from spots at events like Boiler Room MTL to gigs in New York City. Last year, the DJ and producer dropped Memphis Confidential Vol. 1, a seven-track EP his Bandcamp page calls “straight Memphis buck gangsta beats for the stoners.” And currently in the works are a record on Vase, Jacques Greene’s label, and a hush-hush project that will see him collaborating with American rappers. As Vice put it, “If you’re not familiar with Tommy Kruise yet, you’re not really paying attention to small-town Québécois beatmakers.
Monster Energy, The Hifi Club and Set it Off are proud to host the Canada Loves Dilla Tour - a celebration of J Dilla's life and music with special guests DJ Spinna, J Dilla's brother, Illa J, and our own #setitoffyyc crew. Last year's Dilla 10 event was a highlight and we're excited to do it all over again.
DJ Spinna's accomplishments surpass those of most DJs, yet he remained strictly an underground artist despite his astonishing talent. Though primarily known for his hip-hop work, Spinna also expanded his reach to include downtempo house music as well. The New York DJ remixed tracks for many artists such as Soulstice and Nightmares on Wax. He also produced a number of artists such as rappers Guru and J-Live and his own rap group, Jigmastas. Along with his partner, MC Kriminul, the duo debuted as Jigmastas in 1996 with the single "Beyond Real," which they released on their own independently operated label of the same name. Besides his Jigmastas albums and his occasional productions, Spinna mixed several albums for various labels. For instance, Raiding the Crates (2002) compiles tracks from the Chicago deep house label Guidance, and The Beyond Real Experience, Vol. 2 (2002) compiles tracks from his own label. In addition, Spinna was deeply connected to the BBE label, most notably through Strange Games and Things (2001), which creatively compiled an eccentric blend of old-school tracks such as Eddie Kendricks' "Girl You Need a Change of Mind," Rick James' "Mary Jane," and Donald Byrd's "Wind Parade." He also mixed 2009's The Boogie Back, which focused on late-'70s and early-'80s post-disco.
John Derek Yancey better known as “Illa J” is an American rapper/singer & songwriter. He is a solo artist but also is currently an active member of Detroit based groups Slum Village and Yancey Boys.
His big brother James Dewitt Yancey better known as “J Dilla” was a record producer who was a great influence to the hip-hop scene by working with groups such as; A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, De La Soul, and artists such as; Busta Rhymes, Common, Erykah Badu and MF Doom.
The Hifi Club is proud to present Billy Kenny with support from BB Mars.
British producer, DJ and engineer Billy Kenny is widely accustomed to the lower, more aggressive frequencies in the amalgamation between UK Garage, House and Techno. His hit track “Work” has reigned the bass heavy side of festivals ever since it’s release in August 2014 and continues to do so while more recent releases on Dirtybird, Sweat It Out and his co-run imprint “This Ain't Bristol” circulate the globe.
The Hifi Club is proud to present Neon Steve with support from Molly Fi & Benanans
There are not many Canadians that can claim they’ve held down top spots on Juno; Hypemachine, DJCity, Soundcloud, and Beatport charts, had exclusive premiers on taste making blogs like Run The Trap and Vice Media’s Thump, had tunes featured on Ministry of Sound compilations and get regular plays on Diplo and Friends on BBC 1Xtra – but Neon Steve can. The peer-declared nice guy and Shambhala Music Festival resident, known for his luminous attire in addition to his fresh beats, has jumped ahead in the game and is quickly showing why he’s well on his way to solidifying his spot among the scenes best and brightest.
The Hifi Club and My People are proud to present Sacha Robotti + Sirus Hood w/ Smalltown Djs
My People is a party curated by Smalltown Djs dedicated to 4x4 beats and friends. We're excited to partner with Music Heals Canada for all My People events. Music Heals is a group of music enthusiasts and music lovers who have come together to help raise awareness of the healing powers of music. The Music Heals Charitable Foundation supports a wide range of music therapy services to communities in BC and across Canada.
With a REAL name like Robotti, it may seem obvious that you’re set for a life working in a synthesizer factory or in Artificial Intelligence. However, this Italian-German, Belgium bred 3rd culture polyglot with a Russian first name, has a huge talent for music, which surfaced very quickly when he started to play the cello from age 7. In his teens in the 90s, Sacha discovered the rumblings of the underground house and techno scene of his native Brussels, which inspired him so much that he put down the bow and picked up the turntables. Influenced by the greats of this era: Green Velvet, Aphex Twin, Jeff Mills, DJ Funk, Thomas Bangalter, Dave Clarke, he was soon honing and mastering his own DJ skills.
To the point now Sirus Hood is a French artist who grew up in Paris. From the age of 10 years old when older friends would pass him mixtapes recorded in underground clubs of the time, he imagined an amazing world, dark but with flashing colours. “In my head it was like a Disneyland I’d never been to but I wanted to get there.” He managed to start playing gigs in the Parisian warehouse scene making his own mixtapes. It was a childhood dream that has become a reality for him. “I was finding the Disneyland but the music was better!” He laughs! His music is influenced widely from classic New York House to the 80s’ Chicago Hip House movement from warehouse / loft parties to the whole Balearic sounds of Ibiza.

The Hifi Club is proud to host the Calgary stop of REZZ: Something Wrong Here Tour.
REZZ is a DJ/Producer based out of Niagara Falls, Canada. At only 21 years old, her unique spin on underground Techno has caught the ears of Deadmau5 & Skrillex, and made her a hot topic on music blogs & publications around the world often hailing her as “Girlsaffelstein”. Having built a following through a series of free releases on SoundCloud, REZZ’s debut label release ’Serenity’ came out June 2015 by request of Mau5trap records boss Deadmau5. Her penchant for dark, eerie atmospheric tracks that exhibit maturity far beyond her young age is what caught the ear of Skrillex and led to her follow up 3 track ‘Insurrection EP’ on his NEST imprint.

The Hifi Club and Monster Energy are proud to present Kerri Chandler with support from DJ Rice.
Kerri 'Kaoz' Chandler one of deep house music's originators, has been injecting soul into music since the early nineties. An ambassador of the natural and instinctive 4/4 beat, Kerri's influences can be traced back to New Jersey growing up in a family of jazz musicians. His father being a respected deejay, provided Kerri with a rich background in the origins of soul, disco and the New York Underground Sound (known also as "Garage" music). Accompanying his father to the gigs, Kerri began playing records at the Rally Record Club in East Orange, New Jersey at the tender age of thirteen. Exposed to such musical creativity, it wasn't long before Kerri found himself interested in production.
Since the signing of his first single "SuperLover/Get It Off" by Atlantic in 1991, Kerri began producing a prolific body of work that has helped coin him one of the most respected house producers in the world. This has been achieved by remaining true to his style. When listening to tracks such as the "Atmosphere EP" on Shelter Records and the seminal, "A Basement, Redlight and A Feeling" album on Madhouse, one has to marvel at Kerri's ability to not compromise his unique sound for commercial gain. His ability to blend tradition and innovation produces avant-garde music with soulful roots reaching back into the history of Afro-American music. Tradition as in the soulful roots of Jersey house, innovation as in his use of streamlined sparse arrangements and technology, Kerri masters rhythm and space piecing together vocals and instruments with uncanny precision delivering beautiful monster jams.
A spiritual man, Kerri prays before making a record. Each project is an attempt to inject his free spirit into a groove. In the expanses of his breaks the odd counter rhythm will inexplicably appear for a second and then disappear, creating fleshy excitement, not mechanical repetition. His now legendary bass-lines go from heavy and heady to playful and quirky while remaining deliriously intoxicating. His fusions, clamped to the beat of his unique thundering kick drum, redefine house music at every turn. His hooks are loving details, paying attention to horn hits, washes of synthesizers, and catchy choruses creating songs with brutal drive. A believer in peace and harmony, Kerri blames soulful house's positive vibes for its failure to make it commercially, as its openness to influences are difficult for many to accept.
Kerri is fascinated by technology and its application to creativity. He has built his own studio and spends hours creating new EFX units and sound machines. Taking a fearless leap into millennium technology, he has recently innovated new tools and employed creative ideas designed to revolutionize the way we think of traditional deejay mixing. Kerri uses his deejay sets to inject a spirit into the dance floor. More than a mere deejay spinning records, his sets are "live" during which he remixes tracks whenever he can by incorporating keyboards, vocalists, percussionists, guitars, violins, horns, projector screens, laser synths or just his own excellent soulful voice. Armed with a lap top computer, thousands of MP3 files, his own handmade mini-mixer and a cutting-edge imagination, Kerri has been wowing audiences around the globe while inspiring debate and envy in top industry circles about his new toys.
If you think all house music sounds the same, has no soul and is just four to the floor, then I suggest you do some rethinking and check out Kerri Chandler's latest releases and back catalogue…You'll be glad you did!

The Hifi Club is proud to present Worthy 'One on One' Tour w/ Smalltown Djs.
When it comes down to all the hype, his name says it all. He is Worthy. With an in-depth knowledge of production, mixing, and performance, Worthy has the insight to play for his audience, cultivating intense positive energy on the dance floor. From salty aired islands to dark club basements, over the past 10 years, Worthy has paid reverence to the traditional form of classic house while tripping off the mark and sinking into the euphoric less-charted territories of booty-clapping bass. As Carl Cox said, "The Worthy sound has always been powerful, rocking, funky, bass-driven music at its best, and for me this is the new wave in house music." He establishes an energetic dance floor camaraderie that makes even the most skeptic hater’s booty shake.
The Hifi Club is proud to present a night with festival favourites, Skiitour with support from Burchill.

Producing & performing together for over 5 years, they are like savage yetis feeding off of each other during their high energy live shows (which often feature snow machines & loud retro ski gear) while they blast through genres playing everything funky from bassline house to black-diamond twerk.
The Hifi Club is proud to present an evening with Defunk and The Gaff

His intention is to constantly push the limit on what bass music is viewed as while still keeping the elements that make you want to dance.
