HiFi & Beat is an independent review site for Canadian music lovers. We help you choose gear across three connected worlds: hearing protection for live music, vinyl and turntables, and DJ equipment. Whether you are protecting your ears at a festival, spinning your first record at home, or learning to mix, our job is to make the buying decision clearer and less overwhelming.
We are not a store and we are not tied to any single brand. Everything here is built to answer one question honestly: which product is actually right for you, and why.
What we cover
We focus on three areas that overlap more than people expect, because they are all about getting the most out of music:
- Hearing protection – concert and music earplugs, plus options for sleep and motorcycling, so you can keep enjoying loud things without paying for it later.
- Vinyl and turntables – record players, cartridges, phono preamps, speakers, and the accessories that keep a collection sounding its best.
- DJ gear – controllers, audio interfaces, studio monitors, and headphones for bedroom DJs and aspiring producers.
Who this site is for
HiFi & Beat is for people who love music and want to spend their money well. That includes the concertgoer who finally wants to stop leaving shows with ringing ears, the newcomer setting up a first turntable in a small apartment, and the beginner DJ trying to figure out which controller is worth it. We write for real budgets and real rooms, not for a lab.
How we choose and test
Our recommendations are built on an honest process rather than marketing claims. Where we can get hands-on with a product, we do. Beyond that, we compare gear on its published specifications, on the collective experience of people who own and use it, and on current price and availability across retailers.
We do not invent lab tests, star ratings, or credentials we do not have. When we get something wrong, we fix it. You can read the full breakdown on our How We Test page.
How we stay independent
The site is funded through affiliate partnerships with retailers, which means we may earn a commission when you buy through some of our links, at no extra cost to you. That funding keeps the guides free, but it never decides our picks. We do not accept payment for placement or rankings, and a product does not move up a list because it pays more.
For the specifics on how affiliate links work here, see our Affiliate Disclosure.
The name
HiFi & Beat sums up what we care about. The HiFi side is the listening world of vinyl, turntables, and hi-fi sound. The Beat side is the rhythm world of DJ gear and electronic music. Hearing protection ties them together, because none of it matters if you cannot keep enjoying the music for years to come.
